Like actress Parker Posey, who picks her roles for their cachet rather than their cash, Kathleen Robertson, too, is becoming a regular indie darling.

"I like roles that scare me and make me wonder whether I'll be able to do it." During the filming of this fall's indie drama XX/XY, Robertson gave up shaving her underarms and kept her nails chipped and grimy for her role as a drug addict who bottoms out.

While she's content to remain a film-festival favourite, Robertson seems bound for box-office success.
